5th Grade Curriculum

This year, 5th Grade is using the Harcourt Social Studies Textbook as well as Studies Weekly.  Studies Weekly is a consumable “textbook” in newspaper form where students can learn about geography, history and civics through engaging articles and activities such as crossword puzzles of the terms they just learned.  Studies Weekly also has an online component where students can further learning through articles and videos.

6th - 8th Curriculum

This year for 6th - 8th grades we are piloting a new social studies curriculum called Discovery Education.  Discovery Education is an online, interactive textbook (referred to as the techbook) complete with reading passages, educational videos, interactive lessons, online assessments and virtual field trips.

Social Studies Techbook is a standards-aligned, core-curricular resource that uses an inquiry-based approach to enhance literacy and critical thinking skills, allowing students to approach inquiry through the 5Es: Engage, Explore, Explain, Extend, and Evaluate. From stories of ancient cultures to current events, this comprehensive digital textbook takes concepts off the pages and brings lessons to life.

Project Supply Donations

All projects will be worked on in class and many supplies have been purchased. However, I may ask families for donations of items they would recycle such as newspaper, cardboard boxes to aid in building student museum exhiits. Art supply donations such as acrylic paint, modeling clay or fanric is also always welcome.
