MEDICATION POLICY

v  At no time are students to carry medications to and from school. All medications are to be brought into the school office by the parents/guardians.  Students will only be allowed to self administer an inhaler with the physician’s written permission. All other prescribed medication will be given by the health office.  All over-the-counter medications (Motrin, Tylenol, cough drops, etc.) are to be administered through the health office only.

v  This policy applies to all field trips when a student needs to be given a medication while out of the building with their class.  The medication will be given to the teacher or aide and administered by those school personnel only.

v  No medication will be accepted without the medication form filled out by a parent/guardian. All medication needs to be in the original container with the prescribing physicians order on it.

v  No medications will be accepted in zip-lock baggies. Medications must be in the original container, over-the-counter and prescription.

v  Please have your pharmacist split medications that need to be given at school into two different bottles.  We cannot hand deliver medications back and forth.

v  All homeopathic or herbal medications are given at the discretion of the school nurse. Unless these are prescribed by a physician, the nurse will use nursing judgement to determine if these medications will be given.
