Over two decades ago, Rainbows, the world’s largest grief support charity, began its mission to heal the hearts of children.Today the not-for-profit organization is still helping kids cope with the heart-searing pain that descends when they are forced to deal with divorce, death, or separation.  Their goal is to provide grief support to every child or teen who needs help coping with the pain of loss.

The program is based on these four principles:

• Adults often don't recognize when children are grieving.
• Children don't know how to grieve, and the consequences of this can be devastating.
• Children don't distinguish between the pain of loss that results from death and the pain of loss that results from divorce, separation or abandonment
• Children can be healed from loss.
