November 2016

Boys Basketball and Girls Cheer have started their seasons.  we have 21 boys and 14 girls from grades 5-8 getting involved.  That's great to see!

The current schedule is on the calendar page of this site.

The cheer team has a competition on Saturday, December 10 at Round Lake HS.  More details will be given by the coach as the event nears.

We have brought on board with us 2 new coaches from outside of GLS.  The boys basketball coach is Mr. Frank Fracek.  He is a special education teacher and baseball coach at ACHS.  Our assistant cheer coach is Melissa Nettgen.  Ms. Nettgen is a former cheerleader from ACHS and is also a Miss Antioch winner. With having both of them join our Grass Lake family, our student-athletes gain more from their experience.

Concussion Baseline Testing for our grade 5-8 Athletes

Parents: please register your child for this test by clicking on or copy/paste the link below by Monday, October 17th.  You can reach me at if you have any questions about this test.

On October 20th  we are conducting the last in-person concussion baseline testing for our basketball/cheer/track student-athletes during the required Parent Meeting on Oct. 20th from 6-7 pm.  We do take injury prevention very seriously and want the best care of our student-athletes.

A presentation by Dr. Aaron Malina from Advocate Condell in Libertyville will be provided for the parents during the meeting.  He will explain what a concussion is and its effects on the brain.

This testing is free of charge and keeps GLS in compliance with the new State Senate legislation on concussion injuries to children.

Volleyball and Soccer Wrap-up

The soccer team finished their season with a 3-8 record.  We had 21 kids play for us and they had a great time, especially when they played Emmons at the Antioch High School stadium.

The volleyball team wraps up their season with a conference tournament at Gavin South on Saturday, October 15.  The team currently is ranked 6th in the conference and the girls have been steadily gaining new skills and confidence in playing volleyball.  A big THANK YOU goes out to our new coaches Greg Dosch and Diana Steiskal for being able to help our girls increase their confidence in playing.
